Employment Crisis Hits Mid Scotland & Fife

The unemployment rate in Scotland has overtaken the rest of the UK and Mid Scotland & Fife has been affected by a national crisis in employment.

Claimant numbers in the region have risen considerably since last year.

This is devastating news. Every number tells a story of an individual struggling to find work and a family struggling with them. The local statistics show that hundreds more people in the region are looking for work this Christmas and that it’s mainly women who have had to start signing on.

Scotland's economy is growing at a slower rate than the rest of the UK and youth unemployment in Scotland has now hit disastrous levels with Jobcentre Plus statistics showing over 24, 000 more 16-24 year olds out of work, bringing the figure to 113, 000. That’s a dreadful legacy.

There is undoubtedly a mounting employment crisis in Scotland - hitting our youngsters hardest and Scotland now needs a credible plan for jobs and economic growth.
